It was the people of the ancient Near East that first invented writing. They also produced the first known poetry, written history, religious and economics records on clay tablets. Students made clay reliefs using this ancient script called cuneiform. Ancient scripts of their names were made using the website "Write like a Babylonian" from the Penn Museum. Students completed the project by using Ancientscripts.com for their historical information report.

What better way to wrap up the study of prehistoric rock and cave paintings than to paint on the same type of surface. The rock paintings of bears and horses in France’s Chauvet Cave are more than 30,000 years old. The cave is located in the Ardeche region of southern France. The animals most often depicted in Paleolithic caverns are the same as those that were hunted, even if their proportions do not match the animal’s size. Rock art locations heavily depended upon the presence of caves and shelters. So far 350 sites have been discovered, in Europe, nearly half were found in France. Horses are dominant subjects; others included were bison, rhinoceroses, lions and much later, mammoths. Another great website to learn about is Lascaux. |
