Students used the iPad app My Flake to draw their preliminary snowflakes before folding and cutting their paper. It allows the students to see the cuts and full preview of the snowflake before drawing on their paper folds to cut out. They can see the changes that need to be made and think about images in it's full symmetry. Bonus: It saves a lot of paper cut mistakes!

Middle School students used their  iPads and the app Sketches to create their Nebraska bird drawings. It has a good video on how to use the app. A great site we use that is very informative is What Bird. It allows the students to research about their particular bird with visuals, and audio. They can actually listen to the sound of their bird they chose.

While looking for iPad apps that could help students create different effects with their own images I ran across one called Percolator. It was brilliant!  It was simple, yet allowed for a variety of input to create a desirable mosaic image. Many colors, designs filters and color combinations.

Students used their iPads and the sketching app called Tayasui Sketches to draw one of four Nebraska Winter Birds.Their choices were the Black-capped Chickadee, Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and the Dark-Eyed Junco.  What Bird is a very informative website that allows the students to research about their particular bird with visuals, audio, etc. This app has a great online tutorial. The variety of brushes and tools helps students create details as well as the watercolor looking backgrounds.
