Black and white always makes dynamic art. It can be either simple or complex, with perfect contrast. When using white in a design, it signifies purity, innocence minimalism, as well as a very clean feeling . Black on the other hand, always stands out. It is bold, elegant, mysterious and sophisticated. This design theme is popular today in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography and many other areas in the Art World. Students used Contrast-O paper, and X-acto knives to cut the thin white vinyl paper film and peel off sections that then exposes the black. Click on the image to take you to more designs.

Digital Technology students created their facial portraits into a black and white design with Photoshop CS6 using the threshold option under image and adjustments. They used a light box to transfer their portrait onto large drawing paper and created an Art Deco or Zentangle design using fine tip colored markers. #lovemystudentscreativity! Kaleidoscopes, Mandalas, Radial Patterns, whatever you want to name them, they still amaze children! Radial balance is any type of balance based on a circle with the design extending from the center like rays. Natural examples would be the iris around the pupil in our eyes, flowers, and many other man made examples. They can be found all over the world in art. The beautiful stained glass windows of Chartres Cathedral in France is a great example.
Students used their iPads to create digital designs using the free app Kaleidoscope. Check out other students designs on our Just for Fun page. |
